Well, it seems my life has take a different direction then I thought it would go.

I have changed careers and this allows very little if any time for caching, I am sad to say its been months since I have been able to get any and do not see any in my near future.

I will be closing down this site very soon and thank you all for your support over the years.

Maybe some day I can “Cache Ya Later!”

Reaching 2000

It is hard to believe it was just a year ago that I hit my first 1000 finds in my first year of caching. I have set this pace for myself to get at least 1000 in each year I cache, so far so good.

Willis Tower

Saturday July 17th, was my youngest son’s (CSM2000) birthday and he wanted to visit Downtown Chicago and go to the sky deck of the Willis (Sears) Tower. I of course searched for possible caches in the area to make the trip a bit more fun. Sure enough it there wasn’t 5-6 caches close to where we were heading, and one of them was at the top of Willis Tower. Bingo, I now had a goal to collect the last 4 caches I needed on our way to the sky deck and make that 2000th find the virtual caches at the top.

Being a nice warm summer Saturday and the nearby filming of the Transfromers 3 movie didn’t help the situation, the place was packed. The view was great, and the new Ledge (the glass boxes hang off the side of the building) was breathtaking and kind of wierd, its a truely unnatural feeling to step out onto glass and be able to see 103 stories down to the street below.

All in all we had a great day, now on to our next 1000! O, yeah I had the strangest feeling I was being watched as we headed home?

Caching in the Music City

We just returned from our trip to the Music City (Nashville, TN), after the recent flooding in town I was worried that I would not be able to get some of the caches I was in search of. I am happy to report that the downtown area of Nashville has recovered well from the flooding.

While in the Nashville area I was able to log a few Terracaches, Webcam, and Waymarking caches some of which are very rare in the Chicagoland area. I set out one morning for the campus of Vanderbilt University with my mini-computer and cell phone to grab the webcam caches. Wouldn’t you know it i could not get the internet on my cell phone, so I could not get the computer to blue tooth with it to share the internet. Yikes, now what do I do, I asked the campus for access to their wi-fi and was refused, so I called family member with web access at their home to lend a hand, I walked them through the process and finally was able to claim the cache.

Well we are glad to be back home and I was looking at my stats for the last few weeks and realized I am on track to hit 2000 finds on or before my Cache-aversary date of August 2nd, if I can reach that goal it will keep me at 1000 caches a year for the last 2 years, not bad.

Just An Update

Okay, sorry it has been so long again, life keeps getting in the way of me blogging. It has been a really busy few months, ACScott graduated from high school and now if looking forward to what the future holds for him both in Geocaching and in life.

Florida was great, it was different caching via a sail boat and a motorcycle, but I really enjoyed them both and look forward to my return trip in mid-September, going to hit the Florida Keys then.

After I got back from Florida I had a number of caches in need of maintance and I just don’t every seem to have the time to go and fix them. So I put all my cache hides up for adoption and have had a few takers.

Looking at my stats page I have zero yes zero finds in the month of March, man and I was doing so good at the beginning of the year. Well I’m back at it and doing well.

I have another trip coming up in a few weeks that will be taking me to the Nashville, TN area. This is a good time to log some  more Tennessee finds.

Well, maybe I will have time to blog a bit during my trip to Nashville. If not…

Caching Florida Style

Greetings, and sorry it has taken me so long to post something of value to read. Well I am in Florida for a week visiting family, working and of course Geocaching.

Well here is how my week has been so far. Wednesday, I arrive in Orlando International Airport and within fifteen minutes I was picked up and doing my first geocache just outside the airport, it was a virtual, but my newbee brother wanted to see what that would be like. It was nice a huge B52 airplane sitting in a little park. We also grabbed a really quick one on our way from Orlando, Fl to were he lives in Sebastian, Fl, it was on a small foot bridge and I got spooked by a small lizard, I’m from Chicago, we have rats not lizards. LOL

That evening I introduced and 11 year old girl and 9 year old boy (children of my brothers-girlfriend) to geocaching and then off we went to score 6 or 6 around getting dinner. Needless to say they are hooked.

Thursday, we went sailing of the coast of Sebastian, FL on a 22 foot sailboat, and my brother surprized me with a couple of geocaches on some intercostal islands. What a thrill to us a boat as our geomobile. We only found one of the two we tried for. When we were making our way across the small island to locate the cache, my brother says “I can now see the addiction to this game! Its cool!” Another convert.

The rest of my time is going to be hit and miss, so I will try to post photos and more comments as they unfold. Although, Saturday there is a Geo-Event less than a half mile from here, it’s an event for new cachers, so that should be fun for those here to get involved in and for me to log an event cache in florida.

Till then “Cache Ya Later!”

Today I thought I would head out to a lunch event (The Friday Lunch Club – Meets on Monday), as I thought about it I realized I was just 10 caches from making the event my 1500th, so what did I do? Well, like any good cacher I headed out and grabbed the caches so lunch could be 1500. Glad I did, what a great time and the food was really good. I got to me a whole new group of cachers I don’t normally see at events.

Enjoy the pictures below. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the beef brisket sandwich I had, I was to busy eating it.
